My favorite building in Atlanta. This is the headquarters of the King & Spaulding Law Firm.
Delicious coffee drinks and perfect people watching spot!
I love Henry’s dog friendly patio.
It seems that any direction I run, I need to finish by running up this hill. Love / Hate relationship.

The theater was originally planned as part of a large Shrine Temple. The 4,665 seat auditorium was ultimately developed as a lavish movie theater and opened in 1929. It hosts a variety of cultural and artistic events including the Atlanta Ballet, a summer film series, and performances by national touring companies of Broadway shows. The venue also hosts occasional concerts by popular artists.

A massive cloud of dust from the Sahara Desert arrived this week after traveling across the Atlantic Ocean. The phenomenon happens every year – but the 2020 version is especially large and imposing

Piedmont Park is an urban park in Atlanta, Georgia. Originally the land was owned by Dr. Benjamin Walker, who purchased the 189 acres in the 1830s from a man who had won the land in the land lottery. He used it as his out-of-town gentleman's farm and residence. He sold the land in 1887 to the Gentleman’s Driving Club, who wanted to establish an exclusive club and racing ground for horse enthusiasts. In 1894, The Driving Club entered an agreement with the Piedmont Exposition Company, to use the land for fairs and expositions and later gave the park its name.
In 1904, the city of Atlanta purchased the grounds for a city park. In 1911 a redesign plan called the Olmsted plan, was begun by the sons of New York Central Park architect, Frederick Law Olmsted. The effort led to the addition of scenic paths in the park and the joining of the park with the Ansley park system.

Atlanta Braves win the 2021 World Series. The parade route went up Peachtree Street so I ventured out early to take photos of the crowd of people lining up waiting for the excitement to begin.
Family’s are lining up hours before the parade
Love it! The local Barber Shop took full advantage of the crowd size. Who doesn’t need a pre-parade haircut?
The Starbuck’s and Dunkin Donut shop were busy, too.
Iconic place to watch the parade. Local TV sets up for live coverage.
I went upstairs to watch the parade from our condo. Here is the parade start.
Look closely, the Commissioner's Trophy is on this bus. Everyone taking photos of the woman who is holding it!
After the parade the streets filled with joyous chaos!
Atlanta Botanical Garden
Holiday Lights at the Atlanta Botanical Garden is a special time of the year. I volunteered at the Fire Pit / S’more Station and brought my camera to take a couple pictures after my shift. It was a great night; not too cold, not too crowded. The holiday cheer was in full bloom.

These pitcher plants have a prey-trapping mechanism featuring a deep cavity filled with digestive fluid. Insects are attracted by the nectar and fall into the trap, typically filled with rain water. The insects drown and the body is gradually dissovled.
I’ve been fascinated with the street art in the city of Atlanta. Graffiti is a poem the city writes to itself. I’ve decided to capture this artistic poetry into my photography. I took a 10 mile walk around my city to capture the artwork on the East Side Atlanta Beltline.
My tour starts in Atlanta’s Midtown neighborhood and continues down the beltline through Old Fourth Ward, Inman park, Cabbagetown and Reynoldstown. The Atlanta Beltine is the largest urban redevelopment project in the history of Atlanta and one of the largest in the entire United States. The Art on the Atlanta Beltline organization has sponsored local artists to create murals and art installations transforming the Beltline into the largest outdoor art and sculpture park in the southeastern US.

Peachtree Road Race 10k 2019
The Peachtree Road Race is a 10-kilometer run held annually in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 4, Independence Day. The Peachtree Road Race is the world's largest 10-kilometer race, with 60,000 runners. The Peachtree Road Race was started in 1970 by the Atlanta Track Club.
I was unable to run the race this year, but I had a bib, so I decided to walk the final mile of the course with my camera.

Running is my passion. I collect all my race medals and hang them in my office. I have made several quilts out of old race t-shirts. They are my favorite to wrap around me as I drink coffee on a chilly morning. This is a collection of race photos from over the years. I keep this collection for me. To look back on and reflect on the good times spend with friends running the roads.

The Flair is a bronze statue completed in 1996 prior to the Atlanta Summer Olympics and located just east of the Georgia Dome in the Georgia World Congress Center complex. Dedicated to the Olympic athletes and all those who exemplify determination and dedication in the pursuit of excellence.
Made famous for an iconic clip in The Walking Dead’s pilot episode: this bridge offers a famous city view.
Cabbagetown was a mill town and had one of the first textile processing mills built in the south. Its primary product was cotton bags for packaging agricultural products. Built during a period when many industries were relocating to the post-Reconstruction South in search of cheap labor, it opened shortly following the International Cotton Exposition, which was held in Atlanta in an effort to attract investment to the region.
Fountain of Rings is the main highlight of the Centennial Olympic Park. It was designed in 1996 for the Centennial Summer Olympics celebration. The fountain area is surrounded by flags representing the host countries of each Summer Olympics preceding the 1996 games and eight 65-foot-tall light towers reminiscent of classical Greek marker columns.

The B. Mifflin Hood Brick Company Building was built in 1909. The company became known for its "non-convict" bricks after Mr. Hood bucked the practice of leasing imprisoned convicts as labor. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places in Atlanta, the building was originally constructed as a showroom and headquarters for the brick company. The building is now a private residence and art gallery.

Founded on April 1, 1915 Company 16 opened it's doors at 824 Marietta Street. Upon opening, the Station served as the home of the First 16 African-American Firefighters ever hired by the Atlanta Fire Department. This was during a time when the fire stations were not yet integrated.
Red Top Mountain State Park is located near Cartersville GA on Lake Allatoona. Named for iron-rich Red Top Mountain, the park covers 1,776 acres. During the 1864 Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War, the Battle of Allatoona Pass was fought on a battlefield near the park. The park's main popularity however comes from being near Atlanta, and just off Interstate 75. It is one of the most-visited parks in the state.
From June 19 until July 2, 1864, 160,000 Union and Confederate soldiers fought on the land that now forms Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park. Confederate General Joseph E. Johnston and his troops temporarily halted Union General William T. Sherman’s advance toward Atlanta here during that hot summer. Over 5,350 soldiers lost their lives in the battle. Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield was designated as a National Battlefield on February 8, 1917
Much of the battle took place not on Kennesaw Mountain itself, but on a spur of Little Kennesaw Mountain known now as Pigeon Hill, and the area to its south around Cheatham Hill.
In the distance, you can see the city skyline of Atlanta.
The Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area lies just east of Atlanta. Dominated by two granite outcrops, it offers opportunities for hiking, biking and fishing throughout 40,000 acres.

Georgia Tech (Georgia Institute of Technology) is a technology-focused college in Atlanta, Ga, and one of the top research universities in the USA.
The school was founded in 1885 as part of Reconstruction plans to build an industrial economy in the post-Civil War. Initially, it offered only a degree in mechanical engineering. By 1901, its curriculum had expanded to include electrical, civil, and chemical engineering. Today, Georgia Tech is organized into six colleges and contains about 31 departments.
Student athletics, both organized and intramural, are a part of student and alumni life. The school's intercollegiate competitive sports teams, the four-time football national champion Yellow Jackets, and the nationally recognized fight song "Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech", have helped keep Georgia Tech in the national spotlight. Georgia Tech fields eight men's and seven women's teams that compete in the NCAA Division I athletics and the Football Bowl Subdivision.
Frederick Crum and John Forster, Scottish immigrants who arrived in this country with almost nothing, co-founded an insurance house in 1896. Originally based in New York, they built their southern headquarters in Atlanta in 1927. The Italian Renaissance Revival building reveals remarkable limestone details, from the three arches topped by keystones featuring owls and a lion to the classic pediment windows. The building is currently owned by GA Tech.
This historic building was developed by William Candler, son of Coca-Cola founder. The 11-story hotel and 10-story apartment building opened on April 19, 1924. The Atlanta Biltmore is easily distinguished by the towering radio masts on each end of the building, with vertical illuminated letters that spell out "BILTMORE". The studios on the top floor broadcast WSB-AM from 1925 until 1956. This building is currently owned by GA Tech.

Black Lives Matter is an organized movement favoring non-violent civil disobedience in protest against incidents of police brutality against Afro-American people.
On February 23, 2020 Ahmaud Arbery, an unarmed 25-year-old African-American man, was fatally shot while jogging in Glynn County, Georgia. Arbery had been pursued and confronted by two white residents, a father and son, who were armed and driving a pickup truck.
On March 13, 2020 Louisville police officers knocked down the apartment door of 26 year old African American Breonna Taylor, serving a no-knock search warrant for drug suspicions. Police fired several shots during the encounter which led to her death. Her boyfriend who was present at the time had called 911 and said, "someone kicked in the door and shot my girlfriend".
On May 25, 2020 Christian Cooper, a black bird watcher at New York's Central Park experienced a confrontation with a white woman after he asked her to put her dog on a leash in the Ramble, a no-dogs-off-leash area. The interaction escalated when the white woman called the police to say that an African American man was threatening her.
At the end of May, spurred on by a rash of racially charged events including those above, over 450 major protests were held in cities and towns across the United States and three continents. The breaking point was due primarily to the police killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer eventually charged with second degree murder after a video circulated showing the officer kneeling on Floyd's neck for nearly nine minutes while Floyd pleaded for his life, repeating, "I can't breathe."
Black Lives Matter organized rallies in the United States and worldwide from May 30 onwards. These photos are of the protests in Atlanta GA.
Facebook Post from Atlanta Beltline:
Today is June 19, 2020, acknowledged by many as 'Juneteenth', a day that commemorates the end of slavery and the liberation of African Americans nationwide in 1865. Right now, there is a much-needed conversation happening in our country and around the world.
The Atlanta BeltLine is a catalyst for building bridges, connecting communities, and uniting our city. Although we did not commission or sanction this artwork along the corridor, we are in complete support of the dialogue that our creative community is generating at such a momentous time in our history.
Conversations about racial issues are happening
The front of CNN Center in Atlanta was the scene of violent protests on May 29th that resulted in damage to the front of the building and inside.
The protests had started as peaceful earlier in the afternoon when crowds gathered in Centennial Park. The protests were in response to the death of George Floyd, who was killed on May 25 in Minneapolis.
Over the next few hours, the crowd swelled as SWAT was called in to help with crowd control.
The entire park is now inaccessible to the public as a result of the recent riots in the surrounding streets.
Starbucks prohibited its workers from wearing accessories or clothing mentioning #BlackLivesMatter, citing its dress-code policy that targets anything to do with politics or religion.
Despite backlash from employees, Starbucks said the rule will stay in place because it’s necessary “to create a safe and welcoming” environment. Meanwhile, Starbucks allows workers to wear accessories supporting marriage equality and LGBTQ rights.
#BoycottStarbucks emerged as a top-trending Twitter topic.
